Importing contacts

A step-by-step guide to upload and organize your contact lists for targeted campaigns.

Your contact list is the foundation of your email marketing efforts on KOMI. Properly importing and organizing your contacts ensures that your messages are relevant and targeted, leading to higher engagement rates and more successful campaigns. This guide will walk you through the steps to import your contacts and set up your audience for effective email marketing.

Step 1: Prepare Your Contact List

Before importing your contacts into KOMI, ensure your list is clean and well-organized. This means:

  1. Remove duplicates: Ensure each contact is unique.

  2. Validate emails: Make sure all email addresses are formatted correctly and are active.

  3. Obtain permission: Import only those contacts who have explicitly given you permission to email them. This is crucial for compliance and maintaining a good sender reputation.

💡 Tip: Consider adding tags to your contacts (e.g., customers, leads, newsletter subscribers) before import, as this will make it easier to create targeted campaigns later.

Step 2: Upload Your Contacts to KOMI

To import your contacts, go to the Audience & Campaigns section of your dashboard, and click on Contacts. From there, click on the Import Contacts button to start the import process.

Next, upload your contact file. You can use either a CSV or Excel file for this. Make sure your file is formatted correctly, with each column representing a different attribute, such as email, full name, or country. This ensures that your contacts are imported with all the relevant information correctly mapped.

Step 3: Map Your Fields

Mapping your fields correctly is crucial to ensure that your data is imported accurately. You will be prompted to map the columns in your file to the corresponding fields within the platform.

If you have any custom fields, such as Tags or Sign-up Date, make sure to map those fields to the appropriate custom fields in KOMI as well.

After mapping, review the mapping carefully to ensure that each column is correctly matched to its corresponding field.

Step 4: Complete the Import

To start the import, once you’ve mapped your fields, click the Import button to initiate the process. Your file will be processed and added your contacts to the database. Depending on the size of your contact list, this process may take a few minutes to complete.

Step 5: Segment and Organize Your Contacts

Once your contacts are imported, take the time to segment and organize them within KOMI. Segmentation allows you to create more personalized and targeted email campaigns.

Create segments using tags and other attributes to create segments that reflect different groups within your audience (e.g., “High-Value Customers,” “Recent Sign-Ups,” etc.)

💡 Tip: Regularly update and refine your segments based on engagement data to keep your campaigns relevant and effective.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you encounter any issues during the import process, here are a few tips:

  • File Format Issues: Ensure your CSV or Excel file is formatted correctly and doesn’t contain any invalid characters or broken data.
  • Mapping Errors: Double-check your field mapping to ensure all columns are matched to the correct fields in KOMI.
  • Import Failures: If the import fails, try breaking your list into smaller batches and import them separately.

💡 Tip: Regularly update your contact list to keep it clean and relevant, ensuring that your email marketing remains high performing over time.
